Get to know local author, Jordan Saez

By Jessica Velazquez-Schlegel February 22, 2023

Sussex County local, Jordan Saez, is making an impact on the literary world.

Ms. Saez started her career as a teacher in the Spanish immersion program at Cape Henlopen School District but during the pandemic, listened to her heart, and began pursuing her passion for writing. Her first book was a bilingual story to help students transition from virtual school to the end of the year aptly titled, The Last Day of School? Ms. Saez’s second book, Lincoln’s Big Adventure was published with support from Delaware State University and funding from Capital One. This book includes multicultural images and financial literacy to support the needs of minority learners who may not see themselves reflected in literature or have exposure to financial education at a young age.

This March, Ms. Saez’s third book and the first of her first series, Bear, Beaver, and Bee: Beaver Learns to Share will be released. The book is illustrated by Paulo Rodrigues. Ms. Saez’s drive to incorporate bilingual, multicultural, and topics that are often not addressed with minority students is commendable. As a  Afro- Latina, Ms. Saez is committed to making stories that are accessible to all learners. When she’s not working on her next story, Ms. Saez can be found teaching on-line or tutoring around Sussex County.

Ms. Saez has teamed up with Macaroni KID Sussex, DE to debut her book Bear, Beaver, and Bee: Beaver Learns to Share for a Family Storytime & Craft: Meet the Author event on March 25th at 10:30 am. Ms. Saez will read her book and offer insight on how books are made.  Bites of Delight is providing the “cookie craft” where participants will have a chance to decorate their own bee cookie.  Families will have the opportunity to purchase their own copy of Bear, Beaver, and Bee: Beaver Learns to Share for $10 and have it signed by Ms. Saez.
